6 Tips to Get Natural, Candid Photos Instead of Stiff Poses
If you’ve ever worried about “looking awkward” in photos, you’re not alone. The truth is, the best images aren’t about perfectly posed moments, they’re about connection and movement. In this blog, I’ll share six ways to help you loosen up in front of the camera, from choosing the right location to incorporating small activities that make you forget the camera is even there. You’ll learn why I focus on prompts instead of rigid poses, and how that translates into images that feel real.
Move Instead of Pose
Walking, twirling, and laughing loosen nerves. In my shoots I tend to use prompts instead of poses. For example if we are by a body of water I will have you walk either solo, or with your partner. But while you are walking I will throw some more prompts your way. That way it keeps things loose and canid.
Focus on Each Other, Not the Camera
Connection shows more than perfection. In every pose/prompt I will have you focusing on eachother, or off in the distance. It keeps things more relaxed instead of having to stare at me LOL. But don’t worry, Ill sprinkle in those “Smile at the camera” poses so you can still change your profile picture. But when you focus on eachother, those little moments in between will be the ones you cherish the most. The way your partner smiles at you, your little smiles after a bear hug. Those moments show how you truly feel for one another.
Pick a Comfortable Location
Familiar or meaningful places help you relax. Maybe that’s your local coffee shop, or making pasta together on a friday night. Whatever it might be, I want it to feel “true to you”.
